Why do I need an appraisal?
Appraisals are often required for estate settlement, divorce proceedings, agreed-to cash value from your insurance company, or just peace of mind.
 
 
Where will the appraisal be done?
The appraisal can be done where you store the vehicle or at my location in Genesee, WI (Waukesha County).

How much will it cost?
 
If brought to my location, the cost is $175.  If you would like me to come to you, the trip charge is $50 (within metro-Milwaukee).  For appraisals outside metro Milwaukee, please contact me for a quote.
 
 
How long does it take?
 
It normally takes about an hour to complete the appraisal, and you will receive two copies of the final report in the mail
within 3-5 business days.

How often should I have an appraisal?
 
Rarity of the vehicle and current market conditions will affect this.  Typically, every 3 years.
 
What questions should I ask when calling to compare appraisers?
  • Have their appraisals have ever been challenged, and if so, what was the result of the challenge?
  • What is their specialty area - types of vehicles?
  • Do they take photos?  (All quality appraisers must take photos.)
  • Are VIN and body tag numbers decoded?
  • Can I look at a sample?
  • Do they follow the Appraisal Foundation's Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices (USPAP)? (Run away from anyone that will appraise a vehicle via mail or your photos - these appraisals do not follow USPAP rules and usually will not hold up in court.

What does a typical car appraisal cost?
 
I have seen anywhere from $90 to $500.  But an average quality, detailed appraisal should run around $175-$250.
 
Do I need to provide the appraiser with any documentation?
 
It would be helpful to see invoices for major repairs or modifications, original window sticker or protect-o-plate.
